At least 16 people were injured in a powerful explosion at a military factory that mainly makes binoculars and optical sights for the military in the town of Sergiev Posad, about 50 kilometers northeast of Moscow, Reuters and The Moscow Times reported.
The fire was supposed to happen in a warehouse where explosive equipment was located, and the authorities evacuated the factory, writes the Russian state agency TASS.
Images posted on social media showed a huge plume of smoke and tall buildings with broken windows.
The cause of the explosion could be “violations of the work process”, contrary to information about a possible drone strike, the emergency service reported, quoted by RIA Novosti.
