Donald Trump’s main challenger in the 2024 Republican primary election, Ron DeSantis, fired his campaign manager on Tuesday, hoping to breathe new life into his candidacy, which is trying to rally support against the former US president, AFP reported.

The Florida governor, who conservatives pinned their hopes on after their party’s disappointment in last year’s legislative elections, now leads the 70-year-old Republican by nearly 40 points, according to data aggregator RealClearPolitics.

“Time to go back to Florida, Ron,” quipped Donald Trump on the campaign trail in New Hampshire on Tuesday afternoon.

The former president, who has found himself under numerous investigations, has taken up the fight for the White House wholeheartedly, presenting himself as the victim of a “witch hunt” led by the Democrats, a thesis supported by many of his supporters.

The former New York businessman boasts that he has collected several million dollars from each of his charges, which attract dizzying media attention.

The changes to Ron DeSantis’ campaign team were announced just days before the first Republican primary in Milwaukee on August 23.

“We are very pleased with this appointment,” the campaign group said in a press release.

The winner of that primary will face the Democratic-backed presidential candidate in November 2024, most likely President Joe Biden.

Re-elected Florida governor in November 2022, forty-year-old Ron DeSantis hopes to shock America with his shocking stance on immigration, abortion and LGBT+ issues.

But on the field, DeSantis is often criticized for his lack of charisma.
