Romania’s Defense Ministry reacted after Russia attacked Ukrainian ports on the Danube last night: Reni, located just a few kilometers from Galați and Izmail, on the Kili branch, about 17 kilometers as the crow flies from Tulcea.

“The Ministry of National Defense strongly condemns the war of aggression launched by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, as well as the unfounded and illegal attacks against the civilian population and elements of critical infrastructure of Ukraine, contrary to all international rules and moral and humanitarian norms,” ​​the Ministry of Defense reports.

  • As for the security situation near the borders of Romania, according to the estimates of the structures responsible for the Ministry of National Defense, at the moment there is no possibility of a direct military threat to the national territory or territorial waters of Romania.
  • The Romanian Army continues to implement measures of increased vigilance in the national land, sea and air space, as well as increased defense and deterrence on the eastern flank, established in accordance with the national and allied plans.
  • The Department of National Defense, together with similar structures in allied countries, will continue to strengthen the joint defense along the entire eastern flank and deter any aggression against allied territory. In addition, the Romanian Army remains firm in applying all necessary measures to ensure safety and freedom of navigation in the area of ​​responsibility in the Black Sea.
