The latest update for ChatGPT gives it better memory, the ability to remember certain information about the user that needs to be taken into account when answering questions, News.ro reports.

OpenAI has equipped ChatGPT with what it calls “custom instructions,” a feature where a user can provide the chatbot with a set of information that it will always remember.

Until now, ChatGPT has been taught to start each chat session from scratch, simply forgetting what was discussed or with whom it was previously discussed. With the new custom instructions, if the user chooses to use them, the chatbot will always have context to use when answering questions.

For example, a user can submit here that he is a tenth grade student. Thus, when asking physics questions, ChatGPT will try to formulate the answers in a way that a tenth grader can understand.

The idea is to make the chatbot as dynamic and creative as possible, company representatives say.

Personal data protection issues and ChatGPT

On the other hand, the user can be relieved of writing the same instructions every time he asks a question, given that the chatbot already has some information about the user. The new feature was introduced as part of the ChatGPT Plus subscription and is optional.

It is available worldwide, except in Europe and the UK, where there are concerns that it may breach consumer privacy regulations.

In late March, Italy became the first European country to block access to ChatGPT over these concerns, but later reversed the decision after OpenAI complied with several requests from the Italian data protection agency.

Earlier in July, the United States opened an investigation against OpenAI to determine, among other things, whether ChatGPT violated personal data protection rules.
