Ukrainian troops have entrenched themselves near the destroyed city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, although the large concentration of Russian troops in this area of the front line testifies to the strategic importance of this city for Moscow, writes Ukrainian Pravda.

“Ukrainian defenders are holding the initiative on the Bakhmut front by attacking from the flanks. The progress achieved by the defending troops in June, including the acquisition of the necessary command heights, now allows them to exercise fire control. Scorched earth tactics, which were previously used by the enemy,” – said in messages are now turning against them. Our troops advanced tactically. But the enemy’s use of such large forces here shows that this is still a strategic point for them,” said the spokesman of the National Guard of Ukraine, Ruslan Muzychuk.

Muzychuk explained that during the winter-spring offensive, most of the buildings, fortifications and positions were destroyed.

Block by block, Russia completely destroyed Bakhmut with tanks and artillery. There are almost no entrenched positions left that would allow the Russians to establish themselves even if they do not surrender.

The Russians also exerted pressure on the Kupyan and Lyman fronts, concentrating their efforts on the Zaporozhye and Kherson fronts in order to prevent the further advance of Ukrainian troops.

On Thursday, Russian troops conducted intensive offensive operations on the Kupyan and Lyman fronts. They also bring supplies to the area.

Bakhmut, a small town in the Donetsk region, was the center of the biggest battle during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Having switched to the Syrian “scorched earth” tactic, the Russian troops destroyed the entire city.
