A ticket sold in California in the US Powerball lottery won a lucky winner a billion dollars on Wednesday night, AFP and Agerpres reported.
“California has a new Powerball BILLIONAIRE,” tweeted the state lottery company in the southwestern US state, where a winning ticket already won another winner $2 billion in November.
The lucky winner on Wednesday will have to choose between receiving the full prize money – $1.08 billion – in payments over three decades or receiving $558.1 million in one installment, according to the Powerball estimate.
The winner still has to pay a 37 percent tax because it’s ordinary income according to the U.S. tax system, according to The Washington Post, which adds that it’s only the third time the jackpot has exceeded a billion dollars.
To win the big prize, players must guess the six numbers drawn, with a one in 292.2 million chance of doing so.
Wednesday’s winning numbers are 7, 10, 11, 13, 24, and 24 again for Powerball.
The next drawing of this lottery will take place on Saturday, when the jackpot will be 20 million dollars.
