Heung-Min Son turned down money from Saudi Arabia to stay in the Premier League

Son, 31, admitted he found it difficult to turn down offers this summer but said he wanted to continue at Tottenham to make amends after a disappointing season.

“Probably if I wanted to go there (not to Saudi Arabia), I would be there, not here. I like to play football. Obviously money is also important, but my dream is to play in the Premier League and I still have a lot to do.

Last season I suffered physically. This is not the Sonny I know. So I want to prove this season that I am the Sonny we all know. I want to prove it to myself and I want to give everything for the club I belong to.

Saudi Arabia… Obviously most of the players are going there now and it’s very, very exciting. But the Premier League is still a dream for me and I can’t wait for this season” – Heung-Min Songin Perth, quoted by Reuters.

Son won the Premier League’s Golden Boot for the most goals in 2021-22 (23), but injuries meant the South Korean scored just 10 goals last season as Tottenham finished eighth.

Famous names who arrived in Saudi Arabia this summer: Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Ruben Neves, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, Marcelo Brozovic, Jota, Roberto Firmino, Serhii Milinkovic-Savic.
