Actress and singer Jane Birkin, known for her duet “Je t’aime… moi non plus” with Serge Gainsbourg, has died at the age of 76, French media reported on Sunday with reference to Sky News.
The Anglo-French artist, who inspired the creation of the famous Hermès Birkin designer bags, was found in her home by a caretaker, BFMTV reports.
Birkin began her career as an actress, later gaining international fame through her on-screen and off-screen relationship with Serge Gainsbourg.
They met while filming the 1969 French romantic comedy Slogan and later released their debut album that same year.
The album also contained the sexually charged song “Je t’aime…moi non plus”.
After their divorce in 1980, Birkin continued to work, appearing in several films and recording numerous solo albums.
