A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck the Alaska Peninsula early Sunday morning, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said, and a tsunami warning was issued for nearby regions but later canceled, Reuters reported.
The US Tsunami Warning System has canceled the warning it issued for coastal areas of southern Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula.
The US Geological Survey downgraded the earthquake’s magnitude from an initial reading of 7.4 and revised the earthquake’s depth to 32.6 km from an initial reading of 9.3 km.
There were no reports of damage or casualties, although several Twitter accounts posted videos of tsunami sirens and strong tremors.
