Hyundai Ioniq 5 N: the most powerful Hyundai ever Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is not only the most powerful Hyundai in history, it’s also the first electric car in the sports division of the Korean automaker.

To date, this is one of the first sporty interpretations of an electric crossover after its technical relative, the Kia EV6 GT. In the program: 650 hp, four-wheel drive and a number of elements that can make this car ideal for use on the track.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N: exterior

Compared to the classic Ioniq 5, the N version increases by 8 cm in length and 5 cm in width. The car is longer and wider thanks to new bumpers and new wheel arches that house 21-inch forged wheels. Here, design is at the service of function: at the front, new openings supply air to the radiators and brake system.

The Ioniq 5 N has 400mm discs up front that are compressed by four-piston calipers. The energy recovery system is capable of generating a braking force of up to 0.6 G.

The rear is also new. The whole is dominated by a new, larger extension for the lower part of the bumper, which, together with the spoiler placed above the rear window, allows to optimize the aerodynamic part.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N: interior

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is equipped with a new steering wheel with, for the first time, the N logo in the center. We find controls related to the tilt of the car, with a boost function that allows you to use full power for ten seconds, or even a steering wheel to change the driving mode.

Both dashboard screens keep the same look, but some graphics change. The seats are completely new and echo the Hyundai i30 N, while the engineers even thought of integrating a small pad in the lower parts, where the knee tends to hit the plastic during dynamic driving.

Hyundai Ioniq 5N: up to 650 hp in forcing mode

The car is equipped with an 84 kW battery, which powers two electric motors: the front develops 226 hp, the rear – 383 hp. The total power is 609 hp, and it can reach 650 hp and 770 Nm with the function of amplification.

Numbers that convert to a shot from 0 to 100 km/h 3.4 seconds and maximum speed 258 km/h. The E-GMP platform and its 800-volt architecture can charge up to 350 kWenough to go from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes.

Many of the electronic elements that are standard on the Ioniq 5 N are designed to optimize the vehicle’s performance. Including N Drift Optimizer and N Battery Preconditioning deserve some attention. The former splits the power between the two engines, allowing the Ioniq 5 N to perform good drift sessions.

The second, on the other hand, optimizes the operating temperature of the battery according to your desire to get the maximum performance for a single lap, perhaps to set your best time, or if you want to complete several laps but without the full capabilities of the car.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N will arrive in dealerships in 2024, with prices yet to be announced. They should be relatively similar to the Kia EV6 GT, the price of which in France, let’s recall, starts at 74,690 euros. Autonomy and consumption according to the WLTP cycle will also be known later.
