Russia claims that its sniper-reconnaissance from the Airborne Forces nicknamed “Saigon” eliminated 18 Ukrainian soldiers in just two days in the area of the “special forces operation” in Ukraine, reports TASS.
“Saigon has been with our troops since the beginning as a senior sniper. He achieved very good results, he is simply self-taught. Recently, he managed to destroy 18 enemies in two days. He works with a simple SVD (Dragunov sniper rifle),” the commander of the reconnaissance unit of the Airborne Forces nicknamed “Metis” told TASS.
He said that in the region where his unit is based, the fighting takes place mainly in forests, so the firing range is short, and Saigon usually chooses targets at a distance of 100 to 200 meters, because the vegetation makes the mission difficult.
“The sniper performs his duties both during the day and at night, and his comrades, if necessary, protect him with cover fire. Saigon’s main goal is to neutralize Ukrainian militants from their strongholds,” TASS also notes in the news with a bright propaganda note.
“More often he manages to hit [pe militarii ucraineni] during rotation, when one group is removed from positions and replaced by another. His actions are often successful at night, when artillery is not used and the enemy is relaxed,” TASS also writes with reference to the Metis commander.
According to him, the elite sniper served in the Russian army since 1996, took part in almost all armed conflicts in which Russia participated in the last 20 years.
In the months since the Russian invasion began, the Ukrainian military has shared numerous videos on social media showing its snipers killing Moscow soldiers, but such footage has been extremely rare from the Russian side.
