According to CNN, French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday, speaking at the NATO summit in Lithuania, said that Russia is currently “fragile militarily and politically.”

He said there were “signs of a split” in Russia, apparently referring to the recent short-lived uprising led by Yevgeny Prigozhin’s Wagner group.

The French president promised to “stand by” Ukraine, even if the war is a “war of attrition”, adding that Kyiv’s support is stable.

However, the French leader noted that NATO allies must do more for Ukraine, adding that the time for this is now, during the Ukrainian counteroffensive.

NATO countries also expressed their readiness to support Ukraine “as long as it takes”, echoing the comments of Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and US President Joe Biden.

The low-key communique of NATO leaders regarding Ukraine’s path to membership irritated Zelenskyi, who, however, acknowledged that overall the results of the summit were good.

In particular, he noted the fact that NATO’s recognition that Ukraine does not need to comply with the Accession Action Plan (AAP) is important and shows that his country has made significant progress in terms of compatibility with the North Atlantic Alliance.
