Most footballers are already thinking about retirement when they turn 30, but this is not the case for Kazuyoshi Miura. At the age of 56, the Japanese striker has extended his loan at Oliveirense (Portugal’s second division) and has announced that he wants to continue playing.

King Kazu wants to play football until he is 60

On loan from Yokohama FC in February, Miura (nicknamed “King Kazu”) has made three appearances for Oliveirense and says he wants to play football until he is 60.

“There will be times when I won’t be in matches, but I want to stay motivated and do my best where I can” – Kazuyoshi Miura for Nikkan Sports.

Miura made his debut for Santos (Brazil) in 1986 and during his career he played for Palmeiras, Matsubara, CRB, XV de Jau, Coritiba, Verdy Kawasaki, Genoa, Dinamo Zagreb, Kyoto Purple Sanga, Vissel Kobe, Yokohama FC, Sydney FC and Suzuka Point Getters.

Kazu played 89 matches for the Japanese national team (1990-2000) and scored 55 goals. He scored 14 goals in the 1998 World Cup qualifiers, but did not play in the final tournament.
