According to ISW military analysts, Ukraine’s counteroffensive steps could “seriously threaten” Russia’s hold on Bakhmut.

In its latest assessment of the conflict, the Institute for the Study of War said that both Ukrainian and Russian sources had suggested in recent days that Ukraine was gaining ground around the city in the country’s battle-torn east, according to Sky News.

The American analytical center stated that fears of Ukrainian “control over fire” and “immediate threats” to Bakhmut “pervade the Russian information space.”

“Russian media bloggers have repeatedly expressed fears that Ukrainian forces are surrounding Russian forces in Bakhmut,” ISW added.

It noted that Ukraine’s “persistent signals” about its intentions in the city, mixed with Russian bloggers’ fear of those intentions, “suggest that Ukrainian counteroffensive actions in this direction could seriously threaten Russian control over Bakhmut.”

However, ISW said it was too early to predict whether the city would be liberated.
