Bohdan Marta, the spokesman of the City Hall of Timisoara, believes that the measure to close the center for the homeless after the control carried out by the mixed teams is not justified, he told Agerpres on Tuesday that the municipality has doubled, in the last three years, the amounts allocated to social services in this division

The clarification came in the context of the fact that a day ago the prefect Mihai Ritivau announced that as a result of the inspections launched in the accommodation centers, the first center in Timișoara County was closed, it was the Center for Temporary Accommodation of Homeless Adults from Timişoara. .

“The main findings: expired food products, lack of a permit from the Timiș Veterinary Sanitation and Public Food Authority at the food block, unsanitary conditions everywhere. The pictures speak for themselves. It is depressing that the services provided by this center are paid from public funds by the Timisoara City Hall, which has confirmed the provision of services and their quality. (…) We are discussing the reopening only after exemplary elimination of deficiencies,” said prefect Mihai Ritiva.

Bohdan Marta explained that the municipality pays about 150,000 euros annually for 45 beneficiaries of the “Timişoara 1989” fund.

“These funds are from state funds, for medicines for the residents of the institution, for the payment of communal services and for the payment of wages to working employees. We have no control duties, we only check the bills paid with the money provided by the Timisoara City Hall, we ask the beneficiaries if they need anything, and so far we have only had one complaint from a beneficiary who, poor thing, is schizophrenic. We bring them food from the social canteen. The fact that a package of expired yeast brought by a beneficiary and left in the refrigerator was discovered during the inspection, as well as expired food that was given to puppies, is not a reason to close the center,” Bohdan Marta explained.

On Monday evening, Mayor Dominik Fritz visited the Timisoara 89 foundation to see for himself the “horrific conditions” presented by Prefect Ritiva and to speak to the people who took refuge there.

“The conditions are not like in a luxury hotel, but like in a dormitory, where several people with different problems live in one room. However, on Monday, the Prefect of Timișoara announced that this center should be closed. I am absolutely outraged by this attitude of the prefect. The Timişoara 89 Foundation is a private, first humanitarian foundation established after the revolution, and is headed by the writer Petru Iliesu, who has not earned a single lei from the foundation in 30 years. Many people from Timişoara have contributed to ensure that the homeless who arrive here, people for whom the public welfare system no longer has solutions and who would otherwise live on the streets, have decent conditions. Many people from Timişoara have crossed the foundation threshold for the cultural events that are organized there among the people. The 89 Foundation is a pillar of solidarity in Timisoara, known, loved and supported by people of all political stripes,” said Dominik Fritz in a post on the Facebook page.

The mayor notes that not a single lei has come to the fund from the state budget for more than 30 years, everything was done at the expense of sponsors and subsidies from the mayor’s office, which were doubled this year to cope with rising prices. (Agerpres)
