As Mark Zuckerberg’s newly launched Threads service gains more followers as a rival to Elon Musk’s network, the Twitter owner is stooping lower and lower to show his displeasure.

In a message inspired by last week’s launch of Threads Meta chief, Musk added a ruler emoji. “I’m offering a contest to actually measure the tool,” Musk wrote.

Using the slang word “cuckold”, popular as a term of derision, he added: “A cuckold is a fool.”

According to the website Techcrunch, by Monday the Threads service, which was launched only five days ago, reached 100 million users. Twitter has about 250 million active users but has been dogged by controversy and technical problems since Musk, the man behind Tesla and SpaceX, bought it last year for $44 billion.

Twitter traffic also “fell” amid signs that users are switching to alternative platforms such as Threads, BlueSky and Mastodon, according to the head of internet services firm Cloudflare.

When launching Threads, Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, said: “The goal is to keep (the network) friendly as it expands. I believe this is possible and will ultimately be the key to his success. That’s one of the reasons why Twitter has never been as successful as I think it should have been, and we want to do it differently,” he commented.

Musk recently challenged Zuckerberg to a mixed martial arts match, sometimes jokingly, sometimes more seriously. (News.ro)
