Hungary will not implement EU decisions on migration, will not agree to mandatory quotas and obligations to build camps, “ghettos for migrants”, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Friday at a migration summit organized in Vienna, in in which Hungary, Austria and Serbia participate, the Hungarian agency MTI reports, citing News.ro.

The Prime Minister said that they want to replace the effective Hungarian model with a new European one, which obviously does not work.

Hungary will find a legal and political way not to implement the decision from Brussels, the head of government said from Budapest.

The situation is sad, and Hungary must defend itself not only from illegal migrants and human traffickers, but also from Brussels – and it will, Orbán added.

The Hungarian Prime Minister also spoke about how Hungarians protect not only Hungary from illegal immigrants, but also the whole of Europe, including Austria.

The Prime Minister noted that last year a total of 330,000 illegal migrants were stopped along the borders of Europe, of which 270,000 were on the border between Hungary and Serbia.

Noting the work of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić on cooperation between nations, the Hungarian prime minister said that without Serbia and Hungary there would be hundreds of thousands more illegal migrants in Austria, Germany and the Netherlands than there are now.

Viktor Orbán also thanked Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehhammer for Hungary’s support at the last EU summit in Brussels. Because, although good decisions can be made at sea, the same decisions can be wrong on land, the head of government from Budapest showed.

During the meeting, few people understood this approach, but the Austrian chancellor clarified the situation and tried to help. Orbán added that it was not his fault.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Hungary is in a special situation; Ukraine’s eastern neighbor is at war, and with its southern borders it is on the busiest migration route.

The Hungarian model is effective and is based on a simple idea, the Prime Minister said.

No one can enter the country until his request for asylum is even analyzed, Orbán explained.

It can be introduced when there is a positive response to the submitted application, the Hungarian politician added.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Hungarian model works and should be adopted by all European countries. However, this is not happening, because a resolution was adopted in Brussels, which provides for mandatory quotas and obliges the participating countries to create camps for refugees, “migrant ghettos”.

And this is not something bad only for Hungary, Viktor Orbán said. Perhaps these rules mean help for Italy, but they will certainly worsen Austria’s situation from Hungary’s side, the prime minister added.

Answering questions from the press, Viktor Orbán called Hungary a country where currently – if we exaggerate a bit – “there is zero migration”, the only place without migrants in all of Europe. This is related to the system of legal and physical protection, the Prime Minister of Hungary noted.

Part of the defense is to build a fence and defend it, although migrants sometimes cross it as well – because they are already armed and sometimes launch “hard operations” against the border police and against the fence, Orbán said. However, most of them have been caught, and those caught can no longer enter Austria as illegal migrants, the Prime Minister said.

Legal protection means that entry into the country depends on the completion of the asylum procedure, which has received a positive response. Those who do not reach this way are taken back to the other side of the border.

Any rule that doesn’t say “you have to wait outside” is, in the minds of migrants, an open invitation, and until the EU says you have to wait outside the borders for asylum to be processed, tens of thousands will be provoked by human tragedies, Viktor Orban emphasized.

Instead, instead of taking a decisive step, the EU wants to involve the only country that has already taken this step into the sphere of failed migrant policy, Viktor Orbán emphasized. (News.ro)
