Is the segment of sports compact sedans entering a new era? That would seem to be a good thing with this new MG4 XPower, the first sports car from the Sino-British firm that aims to supplant, on paper, the Audi RS 3 and other Mercedes-AMG A 45 Ss.

In any case, in terms of numbers, the MG4 XPower doesn’t pale in comparison 435 hp and 600 Nm announced due to the presence of two electric motors. Each is located on an axle, making it all-wheel drive. From 0 to 100 km/h 3.8 secondsin terms of performance, the MG4 is one of the best.

Strict classicism

If its German rivals have fallen a bit, especially with their latest generations, The MG4 XPower plays the cautious card. It is hardly possible to distinguish a more classic version. There are some changes to the brake calipers, now orange and branded XPower.

We also find a two-tone black roof, new 18-inch alloy wheels and black lacquered rocker panels, as well as a new exclusive matte ‘Hunter Green’ body color.

Inside, aside from a few minor changes, the XPower version is virtually indistinguishable from the more classic MG4.

New under the body

Engineers worked on the chassis with an all-new Dynamic Cornering Control system, including Electronic Differential Lock (XDS) and Intelligent Engine Management, which allows torque to be distributed between all four wheels.

The chassis has also been revised: calibrated springs and stronger shock absorbers, stiffer anti-roll bars and more precise steering. The overall stiffness of the suspension has been increased by 25%. The regenerative braking software has also been calibrated to allow ‘one pedal’ driving. The car also gets larger brakes with 345mm front and 340mm rear ventilated discs.

At the moment, prices are not yet available for the French market.
