Dentists organized a protest on Friday against the management of the College of Dentists in Romania, which they accuse of issuing two decisions that have already entered into force, published last month in the Official Gazette, which limit the rights of dentists. The representatives of this profession demand, in addition to the cancellation of the two decisions, the resignation of the National Executive Office of the college, the limitation of the number of powers in its management and the publication of the transcripts of the meetings at which the decision was made. relevant solutions are discussed.

Decision of the Board of Dentists from Romania No. 4/2CN/2023 and no. 5/2CN/2023, published in the Official Gazette no. 556/21.06.2023 to limit the number and type of interventions that dentists can perform, depending on their specialization.

Representatives of the Romanian Dental Association will meet with the Minister of Health, Alexandra Rafila, on Friday, starting at 14:00, to discuss the problems faced by Romanian dentists as a result of the two decisions of the College of Romanian Dentists. (CMSR) and published in the Official Gazette of June 21. The discussions with the health minister follow a request sent by the PMSR on Thursday. According to PMSR, two solutions are already producing results.

The Ministry of Health announced in a statement on Friday that it supports the “justified” actions of the protesting dentists. The Ministry of Health also reports that it has called the management of the Romanian College of Dentists to the headquarters of the Ministry, the meeting will take place this afternoon: “Legal measures will be taken to avoid situations similar to the one that led to the CMSR’s decision in the future without the approval of the Ministry health care and had a negative impact on the way of performing the profession of a dentist”.

“As for the elections of the leadership of the Center for the Development of the Ministry of Health, which will take place this fall, the Ministry of Health will ensure the transparency of the process. In accordance with the law, the Ministry of Health ensures compliance with the legality of the organization of elections and will appoint observers to participate in the entire election process, including the counting of voters’ votes,” the Ministry of Health said.

These two decisions have angered practitioners on the ground, who are demanding the resignation of the National Executive Office of the College of Dentists, amendments to the election regulations “to conduct fair elections with the counting of votes in the presence of accredited observers, with audio-video recording”, a limit of a maximum of two seats on any -what management position in the Romanian College of Dentists. Dentists also ask the Board, which represents them, for transparency of decision-making and publication of transcripts of meetings of the National Council and General Meetings of the National Council.

“These two decisions regulate the competence of a dentist, respectively, a specialist dentist in the specialty “General dentistry”, as well as the competences of a specialist dentist in the specialty “Dental-alveolar surgery”, and according to them, more than 15,000 dentists more cannot carry out In their profession, as before, certain operations and treatments can no longer be carried out, patients have to be referred to other specialist doctors, although all of them have been performed so far without any problems in the safest conditions for patients”, – explained the Patronatul Medicilor Stomatologi di Romania, which opposes the application of these two decisions.

According to the employers’ organization, the College “made a very serious mistake, playing with the fate of more than 15,000 dentists in Romania, and must bear responsibility” for issuing two decisions that have the nature of a regulatory act in this field.

The Association of Dentists is “outraged” by the publicly provided explanations of the College of Dentists, according to which “due to an unfortunate transcription error in the texts submitted for publication, Decision no. 4/2CN/2023 regarding the approval of the competence of a dentist, respectively, a specialist dentist in the specialty “General Dentistry” and Decision no. 5/2CN/2022 regarding the approval of the competences of a doctor-specialist in the specialty “Debo-alveolar surgery”, some of the competences voted and approved at the meeting of the CMSR National Council on 05/19/2023 cannot be found.”
