After defeating Tatiana Maria (62 WTA) 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in the first round, Sorana had a strong opponent in the second round.
The first set was played on the counterattack, and Ostapenko eventually managed to break away and win it.
Sorana Kirstya made a great start to the second set, leading 3-0 and, although she lost the initiative, managed to take it to a tie-break where she won 8-6.
In the deciding set, Kirstja managed three straight games and took full advantage of Latvia’s mistakes to qualify after two hours and 38 minutes of play.
For reaching the third round, the Romanian will receive a check for £131,000 and 130 points in the world ranking.
In the third round Sorana Kirstea will meet the Brazilian Beatrice Haddad Maia (13 WTA), who eliminated Jacqueline Christian in the second round.
