Will electric cars soon become cheaper?

During a press conference, Carlos Tavares, General Manager of Stellantis, emphasized the importance of this progress, stating: “Stellantis participates in the competition. We will compete on performance and price… We are in the middle of the market where the competition will be fiercest, with players like Tesla and Chinese competitors. »

Production of the STLA Medium platform will take place at the factory in Sochaux, France, where it was designed. It will also be built at Rennes in Brittany, Melfi in Italy, Eisenach in Germany, and several American plants. Production capacity is estimated at two million cars per year.

In addition to autonomy, the STLA Medium platform promises reduced energy consumption, consuming less than 14 kWh per 100 km according to the group. Stellantis decided to stick with the 400 volt architecture instead of 800, So charging from 20 to 80% is no exception with the claimed 27 minutes.

Three platforms for 14 brands

As part of its strategy, the Franco-Italian-American group plans to launch consecutively three other platforms suitable for small cars, sedans, SUVs and pickup trucks.

These platforms are modular and can use both internal combustion engines and new battery technologies. They can be adapted to any type of transmission: traction, power and all-wheel drive.

These platforms have been designed with the evolution of future battery chemistries in mind, including those that do not contain nickel or cobalt, as well as solid-state batteries.
