“24 accused have been detained and two have been placed under judicial review,” DIICOT said on Wednesday morning, referring to the case of exploitation of disabled or vulnerable people.

During Tuesday, 31 searches were carried out in Bucharest and in the counties of Ilfov, Ialomica, Calarasi, Constanta, Olt and Arges.

After the break-in, authorities took nearly 100 people from three buildings where they were supposed to receive help. Investigators found that inhumane or degrading treatment was used instead of caring for the beneficiaries.

Exploitation would also be achieved due to lack of sufficient and wholesome food, lack of/failure to provide medical treatment appropriate to each beneficiary’s diagnosis, lack of care and lack of hygiene of the beneficiaries.
