“The price problem in Romania is fundamental. As long as there are not many commercial spaces for the unconditional access of Romanian production, there is no one to play the market game between supply and demand. In vain, we only encourage production and processing in the country, if the producers have nowhere to sell, because the trading areas are monopolized. Currently, only 4-5 large retailers dictate prices in the country. Not only did they build food hubs in city centers, but they also destroyed the hype for profit. They went to the last farm or neighborhood, having the same external source of food,” says the Liberal senator.

He clarifies that “the state must have the courage to acquire one of the large retailers” with “two conditions: further access to the stock market and the hiring of external management that cannot be politicized.”

“The ability to give the domestic manufacturer proper access to the distribution chain without tricks like own brand, market tax, all aimed at keeping them in the modern formula of economic slavery. The funds for the purchase can be returned at least from the income tax paid to the state budget,” the liberal also noted.

The president of the municipal organization PNL Buzeu states that “we see in Europe how the state is trying to bring back certain vital players for the economy.”

“Another idea would be for one of the big Romanian DIY retailers to set up a food division directly in the stores they own. There are two quick formulas for restarting the Romanian food industry. With a secured market, we can again talk about research and innovation in this sector of the economy. I hope you remember that during the pandemic, when it came to closing the borders, the issue was that each state should prioritize its markets,” Vlad Mircea told Pufu.
