A 38-year-old man suspected of murdering two elderly people in Timișoara has been remanded in custody for 30 days, according to a Timișoara court decision. He is charged with aggravated murder and robbery, News.ro reports.

After hearings on Friday, which lasted for several hours, the judges of the court of Timișoara decided to remand for 30 days a 38-year-old man who killed two old men, 75 and 78 years old, with the purpose of robbery. The main charge brought against him is qualified murder.

A psychiatric examination was also ordered for the man.

A 38-year-old man was captured on Thursday evening outside the North Railway Station in Timişoara after he killed two elderly people, a woman and a man, who lived in the Čepes Vode Square near the Timiş Court on Tuesday evening.

The aggressor and his victims knew each other. The woman was the administrator of the house where she lived, and on Tuesday she collected the general expenses of the quarter, which the man who killed her knew about. The woman thought he wanted to pay child support when he rang her doorbell and opened it. He killed an old woman and her husband with several stabs, and before running away, the victim’s grandson caught up with him. He still managed to escape with a bag containing 12,000 lei, money collected from tenants.

The Timișoara court prosecutor’s office said in a press release on Friday that the man who killed two elderly people from Timisoara has been charged with aggravated murder (committed with the purpose of facilitating or concealing the commission of another crime and committed against two people). and aggravated robbery.

“In fact, it was stated that on June 27, 2023, at around 10:48 p.m., after allegedly breaking into the victims’ apartment, located on Cepes Vode Square in the municipality of Timişoara, with their consent, in order to obtain a sum of money as collateral for a loan, based on refusal and psychophysical in a state caused by the use of narcotic drugs, the accused struck the victims – a husband and wife – in order to make sure of the possibility of stealing money and things from the apartment. In the context where he found that the video call had been initiated from the victims’ phone and was identifiable, the defendant would have proceeded to kill the victims with a knife recovered from kitchen furniture in the home, after which, using the knife to threaten him, he would have caused him to flee and flee the scene of the crime, in the presence of witnesses, having with him a sum of money and two mobile terminals seized from the victim’s apartment, the defendant was identified and later caught by the criminal investigation authorities on June 29, 2023 in the radius of the municipality of Timişoara,” the prosecutor’s office at the Timiş court reported.

According to the decision of the judges of the Timiş court, a warrant for preventive arrest for 30 days was issued in the man’s name.
