FC “Nantes” will receive another 11 million euros from “Cardiff City”.

At a time when the management of FC Nantes is shaken by legal problems, it has just won another victory in a bitter legal and financial dispute against Cardiff City, which has lasted for more than four years, writes L’Equipe, citing News. ro.

The Welsh club were asked to pay the last two payments (€6 million and €5 million respectively) out of the €17 million total cost of the transaction, which they refused to pay.

This amount corresponds to two tranches that Cardiff had to pay to Nantes on January 1, 2020 and January 1, 2021, respectively. This payment obligation was accompanied by 5% interest on these debts.

On Friday, FIFA confirmed that its football tribunal had “decided on Nantes FC’s claims against Cardiff City FC”.

At the end of September 2019, the FIFA Players’ Status Commission already ordered the Cardiff group to pay the first installment – €6 million – of this failed transfer, “in accordance with the agreement”. […] concluded between the parties on January 19, 2019″, two days before the unfortunate death of the Argentine striker as a result of the crash of his private plane in the English Channel.

The Welsh club unsuccessfully appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS, based in Lausanne).

Cardiff confirmed that FIFA had “ordered them to pay” the two outstanding fees. FC “Nantes” “welcomed this yet another victory in front of FIFA”.

According to the club’s lawyers, Jerome Marsodon and Louis-Marie Absil of RMT, “the club’s rights have now been vindicated. He hopes that after four years of litigation, Cardiff City will finally meet their financial obligations and end the legal process. FC Nantes is looking forward to finalizing the legal aspects of this tragic accident.”
