40 employees of the Russian diplomatic mission in Bucharest, together with their family members, must leave Romania on board a civil plane of a Russian airline, the IAE reports.
We will remind you that Romania has decided to reduce the diplomatic and technical-administrative staff of the Russian Federation in the country, limiting their number to a level close to the diplomatic and technical-administrative representation of Romania in Russia.
“Air flights are permitted in accordance with Art. 3d, paragraph (3), sentence II of Regulation (EU) No. 833/2014 and Art. 44 of the Vienna Convention of April 18, 1961 on diplomatic relations,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The choice of positions to be cut and people to leave Romania at this stage belonged to the Russian Federation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia reacted to Romania’s decision to reduce the diplomatic staff of the Russian Embassy in Bucharest by dozens of positions, saying that it would react “appropriately”.
And the United States announced on Tuesday that it had allowed a Russian plane to fly to Washington to pick up diplomats, despite a ban on commercial flights from Russia, and demanded “reciprocity” in return, AFP reported.
