As citizens of the country, we know the French rules of transit and traffic, but other countries may have specifics. From the Schengen area, we are used to traveling freely to almost all EU countries, but if you are traveling outside, some new requirements may apply. Passport
Of course, take your passport with you. First of all, check its validity date, as some countries require it to be valid for six months after the date of entry.
Visa
If the country you wish to visit requires a tourist visa, you should do so well in advance of departure. Find out about the special requirements of the country you plan to visit (especially if you have traveled to “risky” countries and there are stamps on the pages of your passport.
International driver’s license
Some countries may accept your national driver’s license, but in others you may need an international driver’s license. Familiarize yourself with the regulations of the country you intend to visit and, if necessary, apply online for an international permit.
Gray card and motor home insurance
Make sure you have a copy of your carte grise (certificate of registration) and your motorhome insurance. Check whether your insurance covers international travel and whether it offers the appropriate cover.
Book of customs clearance
In some countries, a customs book may be required for your motorhome. This is a customs document that confirms that you are not selling the vehicle in the country you are visiting.
Health documents
If you are traveling to remote or exotic countries, it may be worth checking with your doctor about recommended vaccinations. Make sure you also have travel insurance that covers treatment abroad.
Documents for pets
If you are traveling with your companion, you will also have to protect you from certain liabilities. Depending on the country, microchipping of the child, the presence of a European passport and vaccination against certain diseases, in particular rabies, may be mandatory.
ID
While a passport is generally preferred, it may be a good idea to have a copy of your national ID as well.
Guidebooks and maps
Bring travel guides or maps of the country you will be visiting for orientation and useful information about local attractions, campsites and recommended routes. You can always get something local, but in a foreign language you may have difficulty understanding…
