Tesla will not build a Gigafactory in Spain: France in the first position? News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your mailbox

Negotiations with the Spanish government were already “very advanced.” But in the end, it seems that Elon Musk and several of his associates have abandoned their plan to open a second European gigafactory in Valencia, in southern Spain. This information was spread by several mass media, which, in particular, evoke Elon Musk “very angry” following the leaks of recent weeks.

It really is a Spanish newspaper Cinco Diaz, in early June, which reported information that the American manufacturer is also thinking about the Iberian Peninsula to locate its new plant on the Old Continent. According to the first information, Tesla was even close to an agreement with Madrid, at least 4.2 billion euros are on the table.

Now is France in the first position?

Thus, Tesla would have given up on Spain, even if, taking into account the indicated sums, it was undoubtedly not only this “leak” that prompted Elon Musk and his associates to change their position. It is also possible that the recent visit of the Tesla boss to France shuffled the cards under the influence of Emmanuel Macron, who is very committed to the file.

Elon Musk also announced that they were “very likely” for Tesla to invest in France, even if he didn’t directly mention the Gigafactory.

Tesla on all fronts

Outside the Old Continent, Tesla has applicants for the location of the new factory. In particular, these are Canada, South Korea, Indonesia and especially India, with the latter being favored over the others. The decision on the location, as promised by the general director, will be made by the end of the year. Nonetheless, It is possible that Tesla will open other gigafactories in the futureby reassessing one or more rejected countries.

On the Spanish side, the Valencia region has already been able to convince other manufacturers to deploy new factories. Volkswagen will build a plant in the region, and local authorities are also working on other issues with other manufacturers. In any case, one thing is certain: in Europe, there is a battle for the location of new factories between the Valence region and the Batary valley, located in the north of France.
