Minister of Labor Maryus Budai argues for a 5-year grace period for special pensioners by the fact that “one evil cannot be corrected with another.”

• “What has happened so far is some exaggeration, you really cannot have a pension higher than the income at the age of working capacity. You cannot have very long periods of assimilation and work in the system, for example, less than 25 years. A lot has changed compared to the periods for which earnings were reported, but you can’t even make up for one evil with another. That is why there is this gradual entry into force of some conditions. I mean the seniority increase, which will increase to 25 years, so we exceed that recommendation of at least a minimum service in the public system of 15 years. If we are talking about raising the retirement age to 65, as is the case in the entire state system, but we have a gradual increase so as not to disrupt the systems and cause even more damage,” Budai told B1TV.

We would like to remind you that PSD and PNL deputies finalized the draft law regulating the status of special pensions in the specialized committees, compared to the version presented by the government. Thus, according to the new amendments, prosecutors and judges can retire until 2028 under the same conditions as before, that is, regardless of age, if they have 25 years of experience and the appointment of a pension in the amount of 80% of gross financial support. and increase over the last month of activity.

In particular, the amendment establishes a five-year grace period for special pensioners.

For other categories of special pensioners and military pensioners for the next five years, the same conditions of retirement, which are provided by the current legislation, apply.

The initiators of the amendment are parliamentarians PSD and PNL, who argued that this provision is necessary “to support the activity of those who will meet the conditions of retirement, without destabilizing the social system by the retirement of a very large number of workers.”

Another change compared to the anticipated and announced version is that only 15% of special pensions above 4,000 lei net will be taxed, instead of 30% as originally announced.

Next year, the retirement age will be gradually increased: from 50 years in 2024 to 60 years in 2035.
