
The Kremlin said on Wednesday that Russia only attacks military targets, not civilians, when asked about a missile strike on a busy restaurant in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk the night before. at least 11 people diedReuters reports.
“The Russian Federation will not attack civilian infrastructure,” Kremlin spokesman Dmytro Peskov told reporters. “Strikes are carried out on objects that are in one way or another connected with the military infrastructure.”
Later, the Ministry of Defense reported that the target in Kramatorsk was a “temporary command post” of the Ukrainian military, but did not provide details of the strike.
Emergency services said the lifeless bodies of 11 people had been pulled from the rubble in Kramatorsk by Wednesday evening, nearly 24 hours after a rocket hit the restaurant, reducing it to rubble.
Among the dead were at least three children, including two 14-year-old twins, and 56 people were injured.
