Freezing meat is a common practice. The meat is placed in the freezer so that it can be used safely long after purchase. But determining the ideal period for conservation can be a difficult task.
Experts quoted by the Jerusalem Post say that in order to taste fresh, frozen meat must be consumed within a month. However, it can be stored longer in the freezer without the risk of damage during consumption.
Beef, veal, lamb and pork carcasses can be stored in the freezer for four to 12 months. For chicken and turkey, individual pieces can be frozen for up to nine months, while whole chicken pieces can be frozen for up to one year.
According to the source, fish, crabs and lobsters retain their quality for four months in the frozen state.
Meat should be frozen immediately after purchase.
If after leaving the freezer it looks bad or has a strong smell, it is better to throw this meat away, because there is a risk of getting sick.
