Mats Wilander believes that Iga Sviatek can win Wimbledon more than once

With only 10 career wins on this surface (and 6 losses), Iga has admitted several times that he does not feel very well on grass.

Although the Pole’s best result at Wimbledon is the round of 16 (2021), Wilander believes that Sviatek can triumph several times at the All England Club.

“She probably feels a lot like a lot of us who were seeded at Wimbledon. On paper, we see how things are going and feel like “we should have a chance.”

But it’s not every year that I think I have a chance to win Wimbledon. But there were a few years when I was like, “Oh, I’m one of the three or four favorites.” And I think Iga probably got over that feeling of “I hope and want to be a great player on grass, feel good playing on this surface.”

And I think she’s already realized that no, she’s not going to be comfortable playing on grass. She will learn to play better. Will she ever become a better player on grass than on clay? no Will she be a better player on grass than on hard court? Most likely not.

That doesn’t mean he can’t win the tournament. So I think the dream for her is no longer that ‘I can win six or seven Wimbledons’, but she knows that dream is alive.

Iga must continue to develop her game and realize that she will never feel perfect on a grass court, not with her game. Nobody feels good if they don’t hit aces and winning tricks because they slide so much.

So, Iga is a threat. She may eventually win the Wimbledon title multiple times. I think this would be a really good year to start saying to the world, “Hey, I’m here, I’m fine with weed, and I think I’m one of the favorites” – Mats Wilander for Eurosport.

  • Wilander did not name a favorite to win Wimbledon 2023, but said players such as Olena Rybakina (reigning champion), Petra Kvitova, Arina Sabalenko, Madison Keys or Ons Jabert would have a chance.

Wimbledon 2023 will be held from July 3 to 16. The reigning champions are Olena Rybakina and Novak Djokovic.
