Pedestrians found the remains on Saturday, police announced, and they have now been officially identified, News.ro reports.

Sands, 65, was best known for his roles in the Oscar-winning film A Room with a View and the TV series 24 and Smallville.

Her other film credits include the 2011 film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, in which she starred alongside Daniel Craig.

Sands went missing on Jan. 13 during inclement weather in the Baldy Bowl area of the San Gabriel Mountains.

Air and ground searches were hampered as storms, ice and the threat of avalanches gripped California.

After a new search earlier this month, police said parts of the area with steep terrain and ravines were still inaccessible due to “extreme alpine conditions”, including more than 3 meters of ice and snow remaining.

After the disappearance of Sands, the star’s family thanked the California authorities for their efforts to find him.

At the end of January, brother Nick Sands, who lives in North Yorkshire, where he, Julian and their three other siblings grew up, said he had already said goodbye.

“I’ve come to terms with the fact that he’s gone, and that’s how I’ve dealt with it,” he said.

Born in Otley, Yorkshire and educated at Lord Wandsworth College in Hampshire, Sands began his acting career with roles in films such as The Killing Fields.

This brought him to the attention of director James Ivory, who cast him in front of Rupert Everett in 1985 for the film adaptation of EM Forster’s novel A Room with a View. (News.ro)
