The FCSB demanded that the U21 rule be removed from the 2023/24 Super League season, but the General Assembly of the Professional Football League rejected the proposal. After leaving the meeting, Gigi Becali attacked opponents from the first football league of Romania.

The solutions proposed by Rapid and the reason for Gigi Becali’s failure

At the end of the meeting at the LPF headquarters, the FCSB boss launched an attack on the Rapid club and its majority shareholder, Dan Shuka, who did not attend the meeting.

In response, the people of Giulesti issued an official statement stating their position on the U21 rule, but also expressing their surprise at Gigi Bekali’s departure.

“Rapid has a lot of faith in young players, making significant long-term investments. And the so-called “U21 Rule” in principle corresponds to this desire. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s perfect either. Professional football should be a private business, and investors should be able to identify and, why not, fix certain flaws in the rules that govern it.

For example, we would like the promotion of young players to be provided in the regulations not as a limitation, but as an opportunity. In general, clubs should not be forced to contribute to the future of the national team, but rather encouraged.

Therefore, we expect that all colleagues in Ligue 1 will be open to promoting as many talented youngsters as possible to the ranks of the senior team, and that these efforts will be equally supported by the Romanian Football Federation and not only by private investors. For example, creating reward systems for those who consistently promote young players to Ligue 1 might be a slightly better solution than imposing restrictions.

But such changes occur as a result of proposals made in advance, after consultations of specialists and, last but not least, colleagues-competitors. We cannot agree that instead of exchanging thoughts and perspectives, we simply agree or disagree with the lone cowboy’s proposition. Which, by the way, having not convinced the public, left angrily and began a monologue in front of the press, speaking about people who were not even there.

In the end, we show that we were not surprised by the colorful language of the competitor, nor by the desire to impose one’s point of view at any cost. On the contrary, we would be surprised if we learned about his proposals in time, if we had the opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas. Because, despite the fact that we live in the third decade of the 21st century, we are still willing to marvel at normality.
