The capital’s mayor, Nikušor Dan, said on Digi 24 Monday night that approximately 50 kilometers of the tram line in Bucharest are in a deplorable state because they have not been restored, including a section where a rail broke and broke through the public transport floor. The mayor says that this section of the tram line will be restored with funds from European funds and loans, News.ro reports.

“This is an opportunity for Bucharest, we have 150 km of tram line. The mayors of the 90s and 2000s completed 100 of the 150 km that we know of, leaving 50 km that are in a deplorable state, including Calea Călăraşilor, where this incident happened. First, that the STB has drawn up so-called DALIs, intervention documentation for each of them. I went shopping. For all these 50 km, we will also have money, part from European funds, part from loans,” Nikušor Dan declared on Monday night on Digi24, referring to the incident on Calea Călăraşilor, where the tram rail broke and pierced the floor of the bus.

Nikusor Dan clarified that offers were submitted for a part of 50 km of the unrepaired tram line, but not for other segments of the line.

“Offers have been received for some segments, the evaluation procedure has begun, we have finished the technical evaluation, the financial evaluation is underway, so I expect that in a month or a half we will sign the contracts. Not assigned to all segments. This is one of them, the one that leaves Piaţa Unirii and goes further to Bessarabsky Boulevard. We will achieve success in public procurement,” Nikushor Dan added.

The mayor says that changes will be made on the unrepaired part of the tram track, where no one showed up for the auction.

“The opportunity given to us by the fact that nobody showed up is that we want to change exactly in the area where we accidentally made a one-way street on Călăraşi, a one-way street in the opposite direction on Matei Basarab , because it was a bottleneck in Ride. That’s why we didn’t go public right away. According to the contract, the design takes six months on the segments they received, so that will be completed at the end of this year and we will start the actual construction work in another 12 months. For example, Mihalace will be fully rehabilitated. Also the fifth line, especially this section from Unirii to Bessarabia,” said Nikushor Dan.

Recently, at 5 o’clock in the morning, a bus traveling on the tram line on Calea Călăraşi had a corner break through the floor. The bus was empty, so no one was hurt.
