Bernadette Shox and Ovidiu Ionescu won third place in the table tennis mixed doubles at the 2023 Krakow-Małopolska European Games.

Missing the final, losing 3-0 to the Hungarian pair of Dora Madarash / Nandor Eceki, the Romanians won the match for third place.

Sox and Ionescu defeated Spaniards Maria Xiao and Alvaro Robles 3-1 (11-6, 11-8, 9-11, 11-0) in the minor final.

Bernadette Shox won the match against Germany’s Nina Mittelham 4-2 (11-8, 5-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-7, 11-4).

Another Romanian who is present in the women’s singles in Poland, Elizabeta Samara, also managed to reach the semi-finals after defeating Ying Hahn of Germany.

Samara made an incredible comeback from 0-2 down and won 4-2 (8-11, 1-11, 11-1, 12-10, 11-7, 11-8).

In the semi-finals, Shoch will meet Natalia Bayor from Poland, and Samara will meet Ziaoxin Yang from Monaco.

Instead, Eduard Ionescu stopped in the men’s quarterfinals after losing to Frenchman Felix Lebrun 4-2 (12-14, 11-2, 12-10, 9-11, 11-5, 11-5).
