Cultural television scheduled a movie last week I might still be alive today, a relatively recent production by director Tudor Christian Jurgiu. A creation that came out after a short film in 2009, about which I have only read good things (Olya’s wedding) and after several other films of the same genre, seems less significant, and after Japanese dog from 2013. The full-length film, which, although it was honored with the presence in the cast of the great actor Viktor Rebenjuk, was far from unanimity among critics.
I might still be alive today, a 2019 film, didn’t even have negative reviews from critics. Although the laureate of the nomination for the award Goop (in my opinion, quite deservedly by the wonderful actress Nicoleta Hanka), the film caused a lot of negative reviews. Et pour cause.
I might still be alive today it aspires to the status of a modern fairy tale. The title of the film makes you think of the famous closing line of the stories about the sons and daughters of emperors who married and they lived happily ever after. The idea of a fairy tale is also evoked by the graphics of words inserted in the credits as well as in the text of the film.
Klara and Vlad are not blue-blooded creatures, but most likely they do not have a trace of material concerns. The fact that at a certain point the two appear in a shot taken at a construction site, and Vlad is wearing a yellow helmet, seems to indicate that at least one of them is, as they say, engaged in the field of work. I don’t know why this sequence made me think of the TV show and then the movie dowry, both created in the 1970s by director Letizia Popa based on the play of the same name by Paul Everack. In addition, there is no doubt that the sequence fits like a nut in the wall with the rest.
Klara and Vlad do not strive for the state of an ideal couple. However, they obsessively argue, contradict each other on almost any topic, these are clearly different threads. No, I might still be alive today it’s not a feminist film, it’s not about women’s rights and their clear superiority, clearly not recognized by the stronger sex, but it’s clear that the couple in question a woman drives. Although at one point, perhaps due to the fact that they are in front of the church, the two convince each other that they have similar tastes, something is not quite right between Clara and Vlad. The ending of the film is open from here. Open in wanting to justify it may be from the name
Klara and Vlad do not communicate with anyone, it seems that they have neither parents nor acquaintances who would call them from time to time and ask about their health. We don’t know how Vlad is doing at work (if he really has one), they never discussed work, money, or difficulties with paying utilities. Very secretive. Maybe the director doesn’t like Stanislavski’s method, most likely he doesn’t care about existence files. It was the work of Camil Petrescu. It’s a complete mystery as to what they do when they’re not fighting. Here, for example, Clara announces to her partner that she is going to a party, but we don’t know if she was there or not.
Klara and Vlad hide in their words, sometimes more gently, then more strictly. They have no substance, they are creatures of words. Unless it’s just paper.
It’s a pity, because both Nicoleta Hanku and Bohdan Nechifor, the only performers of the film, whose budget exceeds 500,000 euros, are leading actors of the younger generation. In the creative work of Nicoleta Hanka, there are many wonderful roles in the theatrical performances of the then director Viktor Ioan Frunze Band with no name. She even has a UNITER award for her role as Elmir in the series Tartuffe mounted in the “Metropolis” theater by the creator of the troupe mentioned above. He starred in several films, the last of them Taxi drivers. Bohdan Nechifor plays in the Theater named after Excelsior from Bucharest (where it really deserves to be seen Solaris), in the Theater of Playwrights of Romania, in the Theater Sika Alexandrescu from Brasov and in the installations of independent companies. He starred in such films as White gate and Cardinal. – Read the entire article and comment on Contributors.ro
