Several outlets in Russia, which support the war launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin 16 months ago, claim, without providing evidence, that several Russian soldiers died Saturday in a mutiny by Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of Wagner’s mercenaries.
The patriotic Russian weekly Readovka, without citing sources, estimated 15 dead, including military personnel who were on board the downed planes and helicopters, Sky News notes.
At least eight people were on board the Il-18, the publication claims.
Telegram channel Rybar reported that more than 20 pilots who were on board seven helicopters and airplanes were killed.
And another Telegram account called Fighterbomber, which very quickly wrote about downed planes during the armed uprising, announced 13 dead.
Sky News said that they could not confirm the information of the Russian channels.
Officially, the Russian authorities did not report any casualties during Prigozhin’s one-day riot.
In addition, Moscow also hides the number of soldiers who died in the war in Ukraine.
On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin faced the most important since the invasion of Ukraine.
It was 24 hours before Yevgeny Prigozhin took control of Rostov, a strategic point for the Russians in the war in Ukraine, sent Wagner’s troops on the march to Moscow, only to be ordered back.
Belarusian President Oleksandr Lukashenko negotiated an agreement with the leader of the Wagner group, who agreed to de-escalate the situation in Russia, Reuters reports.
Thus, Yevhen Prigozhin agreed to stop the movement of mercenaries through Russia on the condition that the mercenaries’ safety was guaranteed.
The exact details of the deal have not been disclosed, but Russia has dropped the treason case against Prigozhin and he is to move to Belarus, the Kremlin says.
