Rivian is actively preparing its arrival in Europe. American manufacturer of electric pickups and SUVs really looks up to the Old Continent, as do his compatriots Lucid, Fisker and Faraday Future. Founded in Florida in 2009, the brand began its automotive adventure only in 2018. That year, he presented two concepts at the Los Angeles Auto Show. R1T and R1S concept. They finally gave birth to their own serial version of 2021. So Rivian is a whole new story! These are the markets at the moment only these two modelsand exclusively in the United States. The R1T is a large full-size electric pickup truck, the R1S is its SUV derivative. For comparison, we might associate them with the Chevrolet Silverado/Tahoe duo to recall General Motors’ competition in temperature.
The third model is on the way
As young as she is, she is achieving some success in her native land. Thus, in 2022, the R1T became the best-selling electric pickup truck in the United States. 11,900 total sales. With arrival in 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV and RAM 1500 REV, this first place should quickly be occupied by one of the three “big three”. Therefore, in order to survive, we will have to differentiate ourselves. This is what the brand stands for future sale of a smaller model. It will still be an SUV, but located on the lower D-segment. This will lead to direct competition with Volvo EX90, BMW iX, Kia EV9 and Hyundai IONIQ 7 in particular. What do we already know about this model, which can be called Rivian R2?
Presentation of 2024
in recently given an interview with a German financial magazine, Rivian’s Chief Financial Officer, Claire McDonough, provides some answers. already, R2 will be introduced from 2024. It should enter the European market in its final form from 2026. Use a Battery type LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) is under consideration as Rivian is currently working on the deployment of this technology. A body that would allow to reduce costs, to offer the price is about 35,000 to 55,000 euros.
Should we wait? a completely different model in its form, design and philosophy than the current R1T and R1S? The answer is in 2024.
