Recognized by many French people, both for daily travel and for going on holiday, Car sharing is now part of the mobility landscapeand its success will not fade, especially with the increase in rail and air fares.
But in which region do we practice carpooling the most? Not surprising, it is the Paris region that ranks first, just ahead of Normandy and the Pays de la Loire. Here we are talking about the number of car parks, but in relation to the number of inhabitants, not one of these three regions dominates.
Reunion, the French car sharing champion
According to data from the National Daily Car Sharing Observatory, Reunion ranks first at this level. In May, 26,558 trips were made on the island for a population of 873,102 inhabitants. According to INSEE data as of January 1, 2023, Ile-de-France has 203,155 trips for a population of 12,358,932 inhabitants.
In this context, Reunion largely dominates the ranking There are 304.2 trips per 10,000 populationwhile the Paris region is only fourth with 164.4 trips for the same number of inhabitants.
The million mark has already been passed
Car sharing in France is growing steadily, despite a slight slowdown last month. Indeed, in May 2023, 748,259 carpooling trips were recorded, a 4.5% decrease compared to the previous month, when 782,892 trips were recorded.
In March 2023, France crossed the threshold of one million shared trips in one month for the first time.
