THE fake counters is a real bull on the used car market. This is a fraudulent practice that aims to lower the car’s odometer reading in order to sell it for a better price because the buyer will think it only shows low mileage.
carVertical has analyzed the used car market and recently released the results of its research. transparency of the used car market no less than 23 countriesmainly in Europe but also including the United States.
Fake meters: beware of Eastern European countries
According to carVertical, on average, the second-hand market is significant 15.21% falsified odometers, with an average reduction on the odometer of 46,933 km. The motivation behind this fraudulent practice is that reduced mileage can increase the sale price by up to 25%.
However, this practice is not without its risks, as high mileage can sometimes be synonymous with serious breakdowns that can put your safety at risk. By manipulating the mileage displayed on the odometer, violators hide the real story car
Not surprisingly, the countries with the most falsified odometers are as follows located in Eastern Europe : on the first step of the podium we find Latvia, an average of 23.62% of counters were forged, an average of 47,431 km were shortened.
