The American manufacturer has just opened Ford Cologne Electric Vehicle Centerits new plant dedicated to the production of electric vehicles: this high-tech facility will produce new Ford electric vehicles for European customers.

“The opening of the EV Center in Cologne marks the beginning of a new generation of electric vehicles in Europe”said Bill Ford, Ford’s Chief Executive Officer: “This plant will now become one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly plants in the entire industry. I am excited to continue working towards a zero-emissions future for our children and grandchildren. »

Ford: 2 billion investment

With an investment of $2 billion (equivalent to approx 1.83 billion euros), the firm with the blue oval converted its historic factory in Neel, Cologne, founded in 1930, thus securing its future in Europe.

The 125-hectare production site is equipped with a brand new production line, battery assembly system and state-of-the-art automation and tooling system to ensure optimum efficiency. 250,000 electric cars every year.

After the Ford Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning and other E-Transit, Ford has just unveiled its fourth electric vehicle: the 100% electric Ford Explorer, which will be the first electric model produced in Cologne, soon to be followed by a 100 % of electricity.

Ford: the first carbon-neutral factory

The Ford VE Center in Cologne will become the center the first carbon neutral factory Ford in the world: the American manufacturer has committed to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035 for all its facilities, logistics and direct suppliers in Europe.

For more than 90 years, the Ford plant in Cologne produced more than 18 million carssince its opening in 1931: among the most popular models were Ford Model A, Taunus, Capri, Granada, as well as Ford Fiesta.

Ford Cologne is one of the most efficient Ford plants in the world, and today’s transformation into the Ford Electric Vehicle Center is a new chapter in this long history at the heart of the European automotive industry.
