National assessment 2023 – a guide for 8th grade students
The Ministry of Education has published a guide with information for 8th grade students who will take the external examination in 2023.
WHEN DOES THE EXAM START AND HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
- Candidates can access the halls from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
- The exam begins at 9:00 a.m.
- The time for writing the topics of each written test is 120 minutes and is calculated after filling in the identification field of the topic brochure.
- Candidates for whom this request has been approved by the District/City National Assessment Committee shall have the benefit of an extension of working hours of a maximum of two hours in accordance with the provisions of Procedure no. 33576/31.10.2022 on ensuring equal opportunities for students with visual and hearing impairments and disorders of neuropsychological development.
WHAT STEPS SHOULD I FOLLOW AFTER BEING IN THE EXAMINATION ROOM?
- Candidates will be directed by assistants directly to the designated place in the examination hall, where they will be seated one by one on a bench, in alphabetical order.
- From 8:30 to 9:00 there will be registration of candidates and explanation of the testing procedure.
- Starting at 9:00 am, candidates will receive a themed booklet and a stamped draft.
- Candidates fill in the identification box (no more than 15 minutes), and assistants check the data entered by the candidates and keep the box confidential.
- For the written tests of ZNO 2023, candidates receive subjects in the form of a booklet, with the option to request additional pages if necessary. The booklet is given at the end of the examination and as it contains the topics and their solutions, it does not remain in the possession of the candidates.
- Students use only blue ink or paste to develop written work.

- For the math test, students can use drawing tools.
- The use of calculators during the test is prohibited. Only sheets distributed by assistants are used.

- In the Romanian and/or mother tongue test, an answer that consists of marking an option with an X can be corrected by cutting out the X with a horizontal line and marking the answer that is considered correct with an X.

ARE PERSONAL ITEMS ALLOWED INTO THE EXAMINATION ROOM?
- Candidates are not allowed to enter the hall with any supporting materials: textbooks, dictionaries, notes, notes, books, drafts, notes, compendiums, etc., which can be used for solving the subjects, and also with mobile phones and any computing electronic instruments, storage information or communication.

IS COMMUNICATION BETWEEN CANDIDATES ALLOWED DURING THE EXAM?
- Candidates are prohibited from communicating with each other or externally, copying, transmitting materials that permit copying, or exchanging between them drafts, notes or other materials that may be used to address topics, for communication between candidates or externally.
- Violation of the said rules will be considered cheating/attempted cheating and the concerned candidates will be disqualified from the respective test.
- Candidates disqualified for fraud or attempted fraud receive a mark of 1 (one) on the written paper.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO SUBMIT PAPERS BEFORE THE END OF THE TERM ALLOCATED FOR THE EXAMINATION?
- Candidates who wish to submit their papers before the end of the maximum time allotted for solving tasks can leave the examination center no earlier than one hour after the beginning of solving tasks.
- Candidates DO NOT leave the exam room with the subjects, they are required to hand in a booklet that contains both the topics and their solutions.
ADVICE TO STUDENTS ON THE DAY OF COMMUNICATION
- Make sure you have: ID, blue pen/pen, pencil, eraser, ruler, possibly water and tissues!
- When you get the booklet, read the topics to familiarize yourself with them, then read ALL the topics again in their entirety and take at least 5 minutes to familiarize yourself with the requirements.
- Identify the type of requirements specific to each subject and focus on understanding the requirements of each. To start, choose a topic that you know best and make a schematic plan for solving it in your mind or in a draft.
- Allocate time for each topic in the draft. Try to stick to your suggested time, saving time to read and correct at the end if necessary.
- If you find that there is a risk of exceeding the time allotted for the topic you are working on, it is better to finish the sentence and move on to another topic.
- Reserve 10-15 minutes at the end to read and check the entire paper!
HOW ARE THE RESULTS COMMUNICATED? CAN THE RESULTS BE DISPUTED? DOES THE RESULT OF THE COMPETITION INFLUENCE THE DERIVED EVALUATION?
- The notification of the results obtained in the exam is anonymous, in compliance with the General Regulation on the protection of personal data, using individual codes that replace the names and surnames of the candidates and which were distributed to them based on the signature in the receipt at the address where the first test was held.
- Candidates submitting/submitting appeals electronically shall complete and sign a prescribed form stating that they are aware that the grade awarded as a result of the appeal may change depending on the circumstances, the initial mark, increase or decrease her.
- In the case of a minor candidate, the declaration of the prescribed format is also signed by his parents/legal representatives.
- The grade obtained at the appeals stage is the final grade, regardless of whether the score received is plus or minus compared to the grade awarded at the initial stage of performance evaluation. This grade cannot be changed and represents the grade obtained by the candidate for the relevant test.
