Temperatures topped 40 degrees every day in June, while the past four days in China have topped 45 degrees, 15 degrees above normal for the period.

On June 11, Aidinghu Lake Weather Station in Xinjiang Province had +48.5°C, which is the absolute maximum for June in China. At another station, an unofficial value of +48.8 C was recorded. The information was collected by climatologist M. Herrera, known for the site and Twitter account “Extreme temperatures around the world”.

The highest temperature ever recorded in China was +50.5 C in July 2017 in the city of Turpan, also in Xinjiang province.

Turpan is the “hottest” city in China, and for the past six days the maximum temperature has exceeded 40 degrees, reaching a maximum of +46.9 C on June 12. Night minimum +31.1°C.

China, being a huge country, experiences large temperature differences: when the temperature in Xinjiang exceeded 45 degrees, in Tibet and other high-altitude areas the temperature was below 6 degrees.
