The unfortunate animal was noticed by the guard of the national park Antonis Iliadis while on patrol.

“According to the autopsy and traces found, they killed three deer. The two deer were reported to be small and easily carried, while the female deer found weighed around 200-250 kg,” said Antonis Iliadis, Kerkini National Park ranger.

According to Mr. Iliadis, deer were farm animals in the areawho were legally imported from abroad and escaped from the farm fence after their breeder died a few months ago and the farm was abandoned.

“It has been calculated that 18 deer lived on the farmthe male of which reaches about 350 kg and is currently free to move,” said Mr Iliadis, while the fate of the rest of the deer remains unknown.

“Two questions are currently being raised: first, traffic safety of citizenssince these animals, performing long trots, are accustomed to the presence of a person and are not afraid of the passage of vehicles, and the second and very important question is how these rare animalswhich are still preserved, are located on the shores of Lake Kerkini and in a wider area and they must be protected at all costs“, – says the guard of the Kerkini National Park.

“Although hunting has been banned since February and shotguns must be in holsters, nevertheless this heinous act proves that there are unconscious hunterswho happened to have guns in their cars and who may have accidentally killed mischievous animals.
