What was foreseen by the last proposal of the Government

We will remind, on Friday the Government made a new offer to teachers, trying to stop the strike that started on May 22.

  • The President of the Federation of Education Trade Unions Spiru Haret Marius Nistor told HotNews.ro that the latest proposal of the government was that the first tranche of the salary increase according to the new scale, which will be given from January 1, 2024, should be 45%, compared to the 40% that they have been offered until now.
  • In addition, in October the Government offered to provide an annual sum of 1,500 lei, money from European funds. The annual amount will be calculated until 2027.

We also remind you that about 10,000 education workers protested again on Friday near the Government, from where they went to the Kotrochen Palace, chanting “We will not give up!” and “Resign!”.

On Thursday, the executive branch adopted a “declaration” pledging that the future wage law would be based on the principle that the basic salary of a primary teacher should be set at the level of the average gross salary in the economy. However, the unions demanded that this “guarantee” be provided for in a regulatory act, and not in a document without legal force.

On Sunday, he will have a cabinet meeting, most likely, it may concern the approval of the GEO on education.

At the end of the government meeting, a briefing is scheduled for Education Minister Ligia Deka and government spokesman Dan Karbunaru.

This would not be the first time that the Government has approved an OUG that was rejected by teachers, if we recall the extraordinary meeting on June 1, when the Government approved a salary increase of 1,000 lei gross for teaching staff and 400 lei gross for non-teaching staff, with further gradual salary increases during the next three years due to the upcoming wage law.
