White House: Fires in Canada are a ‘worrying example’ of climate change impacts

Fires in the East Canada and subsequent deterioration of air quality on the east coast United States is “another troubling sign of how the climate crisis is affecting our lives.” This is a “disturbing example” of climate change affecting the entire world, the White House said today.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said President Biden is being kept informed of the development of these fires, offering U.S. support and urging Americans with fragile health to “take precautions” due to air pollution.

At the same time, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that it was delaying and suspending some flights in the New York area due to reduced visibility due to smoke from raging wildfires.

The FAA said flights from the Midwest and East Coast north to New York LaGuardia International Airport have been suspended and flights to Newark Liberty International Airport are being delayed.

Hundreds of wildfires in Canada have created a layer of smoke in the atmosphere, sparking a public health alarm in US cities.
