Denmark: PM ‘not going to take over’ NATO leadership

His prime minister Denmark Mete Frederiksen assured today that he does not seek to take over the leadership of NATO, after a meeting in the Oval Office with the US President. Joe Biden and a separate conversation with CIA Director William Burns earlier.

“I have already said that I am not running for any other position than the one that I already hold, and this has not changed after my meeting with the American president,” Frederiksen told reporters outside the White House.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is due to step down at the end of this year. The name of Frederiksen, as a possible successor, has been heard a lot in recent weeks after a corresponding publication in the Norwegian newspaper VG.

Frederiksen told reporters that she met with Burns in Washington, but did not go into details. Her talks with Biden were supposed to last 45 minutes, but ended up lasting about two hours.
