After years of development and several delays, Apple’s first mixed reality headset, called the Apple Vision Pro, was finally unveiled at WWDC 2023. The Vision Pro headset will be available early next year and will cost $3,500, News.ro reports.

The product has an elegant design and is more comfortable compared to similar headphones.

Apple’s headset, made of aluminum, glass and carbon fiber, uses two microOLED 4k screens with a wide field of view.

There is no physical controller, commands and navigation are done directly with hands (hand tracking) and eyes (eye tracking). Text input will be carried out either by “writing in the air” or by voice commands.

Switching between modes will be done using a physical button. Another button is for the camera and video recording.

Autonomy will be about two hours, but it can be extended by replacing the external battery.

The glasses will be supported and the internal lenses can be adjusted according to the user’s interpupillary distance.

Users will be authenticated by scanning the iris (Optic ID).

The Apple Vision Pro can be connected to other Apple devices, but is designed to be standalone, using the M2 chipset along with the new R1 chip.

At the heart of the headset is a new operating system called visionOS, which offers an interface similar to iOS — the first OS built for what Apple calls “spatial computing.”

There will be Apple apps optimized specifically for the headset, such as Safari, Photos, Messages, Maps, Apple Music and FaceTime, but iPad apps will also work in a special 3D mode.

Vision Pro will have its own app store.

Apple has partnered with Disney and Dolby for content, and the Disney+ streaming service will be available from day one.

The Vision Pro helmet will be available early next year and will cost $3,500.
