
Shortly after 4 a.m. local time (5 a.m. Greece), a bus that had traveled from Lecce in lower Italy to Rome crashed into a gorge near the town of Avellino in Campania. According to the Italian fire service, one person died and 14 were injured.
According to the data available to date, the cause of the tragedy was a traffic accident that occurred on the A16 highway.
The drivers left their cars on the central lane, as a result of which the bus driver, trying to bypass the cars, lost control and fell into a ravine.
Mobilization of firefighters was immediate and six teams from the wider Naples area rushed to the area.
There were 36 passengers and two drivers on board the bus.
